The Race Course that Keeps on Giving.
Are you the kind of biker who thinks that you only deserve trails if you bike up the hill first? If so, Hammerfest is for you!
Across the highway from Parksville, a town best known for its picturesque beaches and jolly retirees, Hammerfest is one of the hidden gems on Vancouver Island.
Flanking the Englishman River Falls Provincial Park, this area hosts the Hammerfest race, which challenges enduro, cross-country, downhill and marathon bikers every spring. The rest of the year, the trails are less busy than some of their other Island counterparts. If you are driving from Victoria, however, the drive is a little over 2 hours without traffic, which can be a long way to go for a day trip.
There is no access road, so forget shuttles and get ready to pedal up. Parking is also very limited in this area and you have to be prepared to use the road shoulder to get to the trails. Another option is to park in the nearby Provincial Park.
Hammerfest offers a network of over 70 fun trails, including the iconic Jughead, one of the Island’s best flowy single tracks.
